ACHIEVEMENTS OF EDUCATION PROGRAMME
- Training of about 80 youths and graduating about 50 youths in job skills annually. They train in tailoring, dressmaking, carpentry, masonry, art and design, computer, cookery, entrepreneurship. 90% have successfully joined the world of self employment and formal employment.
- Given over 200 children from disadvantaged families the opportunity to early childhood development and education and extending support to caregivers. This has increased literacy levels as well as reduced no. of children going to the streets to look for food by 20%
- Building two vocational training centres in Manyatta and Nyalenda slums this has increased the opportunity for many needy youths to get job skills and become self reliant.
- Training of 31 young men and women in repair of sewing and knitting machines of which 6 were TOTS (2007-2008)
- Setting up a workshop for repair of sewing and knitting repair in Nyalenda Centre in Kisumu (2007)
- Assisting over 60 youths to startup their businesses in the Kisumu slums through provision of sewing machines donated by DWW and co funded by friends of Pandipieri (2007-2009)
- Assisting over 25 people with disabilities from APDK and youths from Rotary youth polytechnic with sewing machines (DWW) to become self reliant (2007 - 2008)
- Creating employment opportunities for 15 producer groups and community artisans through product innovation course and linkages to the market to sell their products supported by RTS (2008)
- Conducted an exchange programme with 24 youths from Kisumu and 22 from Marlet College in Holland, facilitated by KUAP and Jongeren & Missie (2007-2008)
- Assessing the situation of 26 primary schools in Kisumu whereby we prioritized for the rehabilitation and construction of 14 primary schools in 2008-2009. Assessing the situation of 50 primary schools in Kisumu whereby we rehabilitated, constructed classrooms and toilets in 40 primary schools in 2009-2010.
- Trained over 55 community artisans on building skills needed to put up flood proof houses and classrooms in their communities, over 55 head teachers, 55 deputy head teachers and 55 school management committees were trained in school management, child protection, resource mobilization, supervision of building works, and OVC care (2008-2009)
- Community sensitization of over 5000 people and educating then in the importance to educate the girl child, how to tap devolved government funds, Improve quality of education, business opportunities, environment conservation, livelihoods and food security, OVC support, participation in education activities, sporting activities (2008-2009)
- Trained over 50 vulnerable youths who lost their businesses during post election violence on entrepreneurship skills and created employment for 50 youths by giving them capital to startup their businesses (2008)
Some of the above projects were one off, where we identified the immediate needs with the communities, planned and approached donors for suppport and some are continuing projects.
