Health Programme

Children Services Programme, Education Programme and Health Programme work in partnership and collaboration with each other offering a variety of cross cutting services to meet the needs of vulnerable children and youth. An example of this is, the provision of Early Childhood Development (ECD) for children who are affected by HIV & AIDS, through the Education Programme.A The projects in the Health Programme refer children to the Child Rights Centre for the provision of services for children, who have been abused sexually, physically, emotionally and socially. The Health Programme gives medical services to Children Services & Education Programme.A  The three Programmes are closely linked in service provision.

Pandipieri Community Health Programme is operating in Nyanza Province in the Western part of Kenya, at the Kisumu District bordering the shores of Lake Victoria. The Programme offers essential health services in the communities in the informal settlements of Kisumu town, covering five sub-Parishes: KUAP working area comprises one-third of the total population of Kisumu which is approximately 320,000 people.

The Programme operates to support the work of the Ministry of Health for Kisumu District and reports to the Medical Officer of Health Kisumu, Catholic Archdiocese of Kisumu and to donors.
The main focus of the Community Health Programme is the empowerment of Community Health Actors to address their own health care needs through giving them opportunities for training.

KUAP Community Health Programme has for many years provided HIV & AIDS prevention, care, treatment and support reaching out to poor people in the settlements (slums) of Kisumu and surrounding areas. Traditionally, KUAP provided care to the sick and elderly through home visits. But as the need for care escalated with HIV & AIDS, KUAP had to devise new ways of caring for an increasing number of community members. A community empowerment model through community health workers has made it possible for seventeen communities in the settlements of Kisumu to care for their sick and most vulnerable members.

Through a portfolio of community driven projects that include; HIV & AIDS Integrated Project, Home Based Care, Nutrition Prevention and Care, Maternal and Child Health, Child Counselling, Clinical Services and Environmental Health and Sanitation, KUAP Community Health Programme aims at developing the capacity of the community in the informal settlements to use their own human resources to support the poor and chronically sick through a practical model of community care with extensive community support structure of volunteer caregivers.

GOAL:To enhance the health status of the community living in the informal settlements of Kisumu by empowering the community members to efficiently and affectively address their health care needs.

For more than twenty years Cordaid supported KUAP Community Health Programme and enabled the Programme to look at what we do best and strengthen that. Currently The Ministry of Health, AIDLINK, Irish Aid, AED, Concern Worldwide, WIRED International, NACC, Pittsburgh Children Hospital and Plan International Breaking Barriers Project support the activities of the Health Programme.

Many children, youth and adults depend on KUAP Community Health Programme for health services. The life span of donors is limited. The community Health Programme depends on financial contributions. Your contribution will make a difference to the health & well-being of children and will help the Project to survive. The various projects within KUAP Community Health Programme give information of the activities.
